Sapporo Snow Festival 2027: Dates, Three Venues and What to Check

The Sapporo Snow Festival is scheduled for 4–11 February 2027 at three venues: Odori, Tsudome and Susukino. Admission to all three is free, but that does not mean that food, transport or every optional activity is free. The simplest way to plan is to choose the venue or display that matters most to you, then check how the other venues fit with your transport plans and the winter conditions.

There is an important date distinction when reading the organizer’s pages. As checked on 5 November 2026, their pages show the 2027 dates near the top, but some detailed information farther down is explicitly labelled as the 2026 version. The Odori page says that details for 2027 are due to begin updating from mid-December 2026. Until those updates appear, do not treat last year’s sculpture subjects, attraction arrangements, maps or street restrictions as the 2027 programme.

A first-time visitor’s account by GoVista describes a 2026 festival visit. It can offer a sense of one visitor’s experience, but it is not evidence of the sculptures or operating arrangements planned for 2027.

1. Compare the three Sapporo Snow Festival venues

Each venue has a different role: Odori is the central park venue for snow sculptures, Susukino is known for ice sculptures, and Tsudome is presented as a family-oriented snow-play venue. These are useful distinctions for deciding what to prioritize, but the event’s detailed programme can change from year to year. Check the current venue pages before making plans around a particular sculpture, activity or operating arrangement.

The dates are announced before every programme detail.
Venue Useful planning focus Official access description What the published details say
Odori Central park and snow-sculpture viewing Immediately by Odori subway station The 2027 dates are shown; lower detailed programme content is labelled 2026.
Susukino Ice-sculpture viewing Immediately by Susukino Station on the Namboku Line The 2027 dates are shown; lower detailed content is labelled 2026.
Tsudome Snow play, particularly for families About a 15-minute walk from Sakaemachi Station on the Toho Line The 2027 dates are shown; lower detailed content is labelled 2026.

The organizer’s FAQ gives the venue approaches and confirms that admission is free at all three sites. Odori is immediately by Odori subway station, Susukino is immediately by Susukino Station on the Namboku Line, and Tsudome is about a 15-minute walk from Sakaemachi Station on the Toho Line. See the official festival FAQ and the separate Odori, Tsudome and Susukino pages for the organizer’s current information.

Do not think of the three venues as adjacent sections of one site. Their station approaches differ, and the Tsudome approach includes a final walk from Sakaemachi. Before adding another venue to your day, check its location and access information against your intended starting point, schedule and tolerance for being outdoors. The organizer also provides a separate access page that sets out routes for the three venues and directs visitors planning airport access to Sapporo’s official tourism information.

HOKKAIDO LIFE presents the festival in 2025, while Steven Tan combines a festival visit with Sapporo food stops. These accounts can give readers different examples of how a visit might fit into a wider trip, but neither confirms what will operate in 2027. Use the current organizer information for festival dates and venue details, and treat past visitor accounts as perspectives on earlier visits.

2. Sapporo Snow Festival at Odori

Odori is the central park venue and stretches from West 1 to West 11 over about 1.1 kilometres, according to the organizer’s FAQ. The FAQ says the park can be viewed freely during the festival period, and the Odori site page lists illumination until 22:00. Those details make Odori a natural choice for visitors prioritizing the snow-sculpture setting, but the exact 2027 programme should be checked once published. See the official FAQ and Odori venue page.

A free festival still needs a practical trip budget.

The scale of the site matters when you are deciding how to spend your time. Rather than assuming that you will cover every block, decide whether you want a broad walk through the park or a shorter visit focused on a particular display. Once the 2027 programme is available, note the actual block for any sculpture you especially want to see. A specific block-based plan can make it easier to decide where to begin and how long you want to remain outdoors.

Be cautious with the examples shown in older details. The detailed 2026 page included Aizu Tsurugajo among its large snow sculptures and listed 80 citizen sculptures across blocks 2 and 9. These are descriptions of the 2026 display, not a preview or confirmed list for 2027. The site map is also labelled as information current in January 2026, so do not use it as a 2027 sculpture map.

The organizer traces the festival’s origin to 1950, when local junior- and senior-high-school students displayed six snow sculptures. That history helps explain how the festival began, but it does not establish the scale or subjects of any future year’s displays. For a 2027 visit, use the new programme and map when the organizer updates them rather than relying on historical examples as a substitute.

VIRTUAL JAPAN presents a night walk at the Sapporo Snow Festival. It offers a view of an evening visit, but the sculptures shown in the video belong to the visit it records and should not be treated as a guide to the 2027 map. Check the current Odori page for the latest published illumination and programme details before choosing when to go.

3. Tsudome and Susukino: snow play and ice sculptures

Tsudome is presented by the organizer as a family-oriented snow-play venue. Its page lists operating hours of 10:00–16:00 and warns that reception for some attractions may end early during busy periods. However, the detailed Tsudome information is labelled as the 2026 version, so confirm the 2027 activity programme and practical conditions when the page is updated. The official Tsudome page is the place to check for those updates.

The 2026 information gives the address as 885-1 Sakaemachi, Higashi-ku, Sapporo. It says there is no general-car parking and no place for vehicles to stop for passenger drop-off, and that hats and gloves are required to use the attractions. It also describes the venue as non-smoking. These are useful points to check when planning, especially with children or a group arriving by car, but they remain details from the 2026 guidance rather than guarantees about 2027. The organizer’s Tsudome venue page and this Tsudome map search can help you review the published information and location.

The 2026 Tsudome page also includes attraction-specific arrangements, including information about numbered tickets. Do not carry over the number of tickets distributed in 2026 to the 2027 event. Check the new season’s page for current activity access, reception and any other conditions before treating a particular attraction as part of your plan.

Susukino is the ice-sculpture venue, and the organizer’s FAQ says its ice sculptures can be viewed freely during the festival period. The 2026 details describe the site along Sapporo Ekimae-dori, from South 4 to South 6, and list 60 ice sculptures, a fish-in-ice display and an ice-carving contest. These examples indicate the kind of material described for 2026; they are not a confirmed list of 2027 subjects or activities. Check the official Susukino page and the Susukino Station map for current information.

Pay particular attention to new pedestrian and traffic notices for Susukino. The 2026 page includes weekday-labelled pedestrian arrangements, but those times and days cannot simply be transferred to the 2027 calendar. The organizer has not established the 2027 ice-sculpture subjects or traffic restrictions in the information covered here, so check the current notice before choosing a route through the area.

4. Transport, winter conditions and budget

The official access page separates the approaches to the three venues and points visitors travelling from New Chitose Airport to Sapporo’s official tourism information. It does not establish a 2027 shuttle-bus timetable, fare or reservation method, nor does it give a total transport cost for visiting all three venues. Once you have chosen a date and venues, use the organizer’s access page to review the routes and check any additional transport service directly before relying on it.

Budget item What is established What to check for your visit
Venue admission Admission is free at all three venues. Any conditions attached to an individual activity.
Transport The venues have different station approaches. Current tickets, transfers and any confirmed shuttle service.
Food Free admission does not include food purchases. Current stall or restaurant menus and prices.
Clothing and equipment The organizer provides a winter-preparation guide. Clothing suited to the forecast and the activities you plan to do.
Accommodation Accommodation is separate from venue admission. Your own booking, location and travel arrangements.

Free entry is an important part of the budget, but it is not a complete estimate of a festival visit. The available information does not establish the prices of all food or paid activities for 2027. Keep admission separate from spending on food, transport, accommodation and any optional activity, and check the relevant current information before setting a total budget.

Sapporo’s winter conditions should also be part of the plan. The organizer provides a winter weather and clothing guide, which is useful preparation but not a forecast for a particular day. Check the actual forecast for your travel dates as well. The published information does not establish the snow, temperature or any temporary cancellation conditions for each day of the 2027 event.

Think about the amount of time your party wants to spend outdoors, rather than assuming that every venue suits the same length of visit. Include opportunities to rest and warm up, and check the route and day’s conditions directly if you are travelling with children or someone with mobility needs. A general statement that a venue is freely viewable does not answer every question about surfaces, queues or access on the day.

The Chinese-language channel SKチャンネル presents daytime and evening aspects of the festival, while Abroad in Japan describes a two-day visit. These are creator perspectives on visits, not current operating guidance. They may help you think about the shape of a trip, but use the organizer’s current pages for venue access, hours, activities and other practical details.

5. Before and after the event: final checks

The organizer’s FAQ says visitors cannot enter Odori and Tsudome before the festival period. It also says that snow and ice sculptures are dismantled from the following morning after the event for safety. Do not plan an early arrival expecting to enter those venues before opening, or a post-event visit expecting the complete displays to remain in place. Check the official FAQ when finalizing dates.

Festival dates→New venue details→Current map→Transport→Weather→Visit
Confirm the programme as well as the headline dates.

Use the following checklist as the 2027 details appear:

Festival plans can depend on information that changes by year, so a last-year account or map should not replace the current notice. In particular, use the 2027 pages for sculpture subjects, Tsudome attraction arrangements and Susukino pedestrian or traffic restrictions. If a detail has not yet been published, leave room in your plan for it to be confirmed rather than assuming that the previous year’s arrangement will continue.

For meals around your festival visit, consult a Sapporo food guide and check current menus and prices directly. A Japan bus guide can help with wider transport planning, while a Japan cash-or-card guide can help you prepare payment questions for food stops and shops. A Japan budget travel guide can also help keep transport, meals and accommodation distinct from free festival entry.

Frequently asked questions

What are the 2027 Sapporo Snow Festival dates?

The organizer schedules the festival for 4–11 February 2027, across Odori, Tsudome and Susukino. Check the organizer’s current pages before travelling in case updated notices affect your plans. The official FAQ is the central source for the dates and venue basics.

Are all three venues free?

Admission to all three venues is free, according to the organizer. That does not establish that every meal or optional activity is free, and the available information does not confirm all 2027 prices. Check the current details for any specific activity you hope to try.

Can I use the 2026 map and attraction rules for 2027?

Use the 2027 updates when they are published rather than assuming that 2026 details will carry over. The organizer’s venue pages explicitly label some lower-level details as 2026, including sculpture examples and Tsudome operating information. In particular, do not reuse the 2026 sculpture list, attraction ticket figures or Susukino pedestrian arrangements as confirmed 2027 information.

Can I see the sculptures the day after the festival?

The organizer says dismantling begins the following morning for safety. You should therefore not plan on the complete snow and ice displays remaining available after the festival ends. If your travel dates are close to the end of the event, check the official notice and plan your viewing within the scheduled festival period.

How do I get to the three venues?

The organizer describes Odori as immediately by Odori subway station and Susukino as immediately by Susukino Station on the Namboku Line. Tsudome is about a 15-minute walk from Sakaemachi Station on the Toho Line. Check the official access page for the route information, and confirm current transport details for your own date.

Is there a confirmed 2027 shuttle bus?

The information covered here does not establish a 2027 shuttle timetable, fare or reservation method. Do not rely on an assumed service when planning transfers between venues. Check the organizer’s current access information and any service provider’s own current notice before travelling.

Last checked: 5 November 2026. The announced 2027 dates are distinguished throughout this guide from detailed information that the organizer still labels as 2026.
