Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama has three public bathhouses to compare: Dogo Onsen Honkan, Asuka-no-Yu and Tsubaki-no-Yu. The Honkan’s Kami-no-Yu downstairs course is bathing only and costs ¥700 for adults; Tsubaki-no-Yu has the lowest listed adult bathing price, at ¥500. Prices and hours below were checked on 5 November 2026, but confirm current information before travelling, especially for courses whose hours are not listed here.

Choose a bathhouse and course

The right choice depends on whether you want a straightforward bath, a rest course or a different bathhouse experience. Kami-no-Yu downstairs is the Honkan’s bathing-only course, while the Honkan’s more expensive listed courses include second-floor or private-room options. Asuka-no-Yu and Tsubaki-no-Yu are separate facilities, so do not assume that the Honkan’s course details or hours apply to them.

Facility and course Adult price What the listed course includes Published hours in the fact notes
Honkan, Kami-no-Yu downstairs ¥700 Bathing only 6:00–23:00; last entry 22:30
Honkan, Kami-no-Yu second floor ¥1,300 Second-floor course Check official information
Honkan, Tama-no-Yu second floor ¥2,000 Rest course; self-guided Yushinden viewing is included with Tama-no-Yu rest courses Check official information
Honkan, Tama-no-Yu third-floor private-room course ¥2,500 Private-room course Check official information
Asuka-no-Yu, first-floor bath ¥610 First-floor bathing Check official information
Tsubaki-no-Yu ¥500 Bathing 6:30–23:00

Prices and the stated hours are from Matsuyama City’s Dogo Onsen information; check that page for current details before setting out. The table compares admission courses, not the total cost of transport, towels or other purchases. A regular bathing ticket is valid only on the day it is purchased.

For the lowest-priced listed adult admission overall, choose Tsubaki-no-Yu at ¥500. If you specifically want the Honkan, Kami-no-Yu downstairs is its lowest-priced listed course at ¥700 for adults and ¥350 for children. The adult price for Asuka-no-Yu’s first-floor bath is ¥610, but its hours are not stated here, so check the city information before planning around a particular time.

Dogo Onsen Honkan and its rooms

The Honkan is a three-storey wooden building and was designated a National Important Cultural Property in December 1994. Preservation and repair work began in January 2019 and was completed on 20 December 2024. The building contains Kami-no-Yu and Tama-no-Yu; its history and current course information are described on the official Honkan page.

Kami-no-Yu→Bathing→Tama-no-Yu→Rest→Yushinden viewing
Honkan course choices

The two baths have distinct features. In Kami-no-Yu, a cylindrical water outlet called a yugama supplies the bath, and the bathing room has ceramic-panel paintings from Tobe ware. Tama-no-Yu is described as using Aji stone and Oshima stone. These details can help distinguish the bathing spaces when choosing a course, but the course price and included facilities should still be checked directly.

The Honkan’s lowest-priced option, Kami-no-Yu downstairs, is bathing only. A Tama-no-Yu rest course includes self-guided viewing of Yushinden, the Imperial Family’s special bathing facility; Yushinden is for viewing and is not itself a bath. The Honkan’s listed third-floor Tama-no-Yu private-room course costs ¥2,500 for adults, but the room and course should not be confused with the separately listed Shirasagi and Hisho private-room arrangements described below.

For current course conditions, use the official Honkan information rather than relying on an older description or a visitor’s account. In particular, only the downstairs Kami-no-Yu hours and last-entry time are given in this guide. If you are considering a different Honkan course, check its current details before you travel rather than assuming it shares those hours.

Reservations and private rooms

The official reservation site lists two private rooms, Shirasagi and Hisho. Shirasagi accommodates up to 18 people and has a room charge of ¥6,000; Hisho accommodates up to 10 people and has a room charge of ¥3,000. Each room is limited to five groups per day, and neither room contains a bath.

Group size→Honkan rest room→Per-person charge→Asuka special bath
Room and bath are different bookings

The room charge is not the complete cost of a visit: a per-person charge is added. Ask the operator to confirm the full amount for your party and chosen date before booking, including any additional purchases you may need. For same-day bookings for these private rooms, reservations are handled by telephone; use the contact details on the official reservation site.

Asuka-no-Yu has a separate special bath with a capacity of up to five people, limited to eight groups per day. This is not the same arrangement as a Shirasagi or Hisho room, so compare the relevant conditions on the reservation site before deciding what suits your party. A daily group limit does not mean a place will necessarily be available when you arrive, and current availability must be confirmed with the operator.

When comparing a room with an ordinary admission ticket, keep the charges separate. A private room is for bathing and resting together, not a private bath in the room. Yushinden viewing is also separate from bathing: it is included with the Honkan’s Tama-no-Yu rest courses, but Yushinden itself is not an in-room bath or bathing facility.

Getting to Dogo Onsen

The Honkan is at 5-6 Dogo Yunomachi, Matsuyama. Asuka-no-Yu and Tsubaki-no-Yu are at 19-22 Dogo Yunomachi. The official access page gives the approximate journeys below; the times are estimates and can vary with traffic and transport connections.

Starting point Transport described by the official guide Approximate journey
Matsuyama Airport Limousine bus toward the station 43 minutes
JR Matsuyama Station City tram 25 minutes
Matsuyama City Station City tram 20 minutes
Matsuyama Tourist Port Limousine bus toward the station 43 minutes

From Matsuyama Airport or Matsuyama Tourist Port, the listed option is a limousine bus toward the station. From JR Matsuyama Station or Matsuyama City Station, the listed option is the city tram. Check the official access page for current boarding information and timetables before choosing a connection; the approximate travel times do not include a guaranteed wait-free journey.

If you are going to the Honkan, use its address, 5-6 Dogo Yunomachi, when checking your destination. For Asuka-no-Yu or Tsubaki-no-Yu, use 19-22 Dogo Yunomachi instead. The official access page also identifies municipal parking locations, but check current parking conditions separately if you plan to drive.

Treat the journey estimate as a way to compare starting points, not as a promise of arrival time. A late arrival matters particularly if you intend to use Kami-no-Yu downstairs: its listed last entry is 22:30, even though its stated closing time is 23:00. Do not apply that last-entry time to another course without checking its current official information.

Planning for families and groups

Check the child category for the specific activity before calculating a family’s admission. For Honkan general bathing, the child category is ages 2–11; for Yushinden viewing, it is ages 6–11. Those age ranges differ, so a child’s eligibility for one category should not automatically be applied to another course.

Choose a bath→Check ages→Check capacity→Confirm total
Match the course to the travellers
Admission→Room if booked→Transport→Optional purchases
Build your own Dogo budget

The published child price for Kami-no-Yu downstairs is ¥350, compared with ¥700 for an adult. On that course, two adults pay ¥1,400 in admission, while one adult and one eligible child pay ¥1,050. These examples cover admission only: they do not include travel, purchases, room charges or any other costs.

Tsubaki-no-Yu costs ¥500 for adults and ¥200 for children, and its listed hours are 6:30–23:00. Do not apply those prices or hours to Asuka-no-Yu or a Honkan course. For other admissions, check the city’s current fee information and the relevant facility page before estimating the whole party’s cost.

For a larger group considering a private room, compare your group size with the capacity of the room you want. A group of 12 is within Shirasagi’s stated capacity of 18 but exceeds Hisho’s capacity of 10. That comparison does not confirm that a room is available on your date or establish the total price: the room charge is supplemented by a per-person charge, which the operator should confirm.

If a member of your party needs step-free access or other assistance, contact the facility about the exact route, room and bathing arrangements before booking. The fact notes do not establish whether every entrance, changing area or bath suits every visitor’s needs. Confirm the details for the specific facility and course rather than assuming that a private room or a particular bath is suitable.

Make a practical visit plan

Start by choosing the bathhouse and course, then check the corresponding official information. For a straightforward Honkan visit, Kami-no-Yu downstairs is the bathing-only option. If you want a rest course and Yushinden viewing, compare the Tama-no-Yu options on the Honkan page; if you want another bathhouse, compare Asuka-no-Yu and Tsubaki-no-Yu separately.

Next, check the hours that apply to your chosen course and the transport information for your starting point. The published 22:30 last entry applies to Kami-no-Yu downstairs, not automatically to the other Honkan courses or to the other bathhouses. The city’s fee and hours page and the official access page are the best places to recheck before leaving, particularly if your arrival time is close to the listed last entry.

If you are travelling as a group, decide whether you need ordinary admission or a room before comparing prices. Add the room charge and the applicable per-person charge separately, and confirm availability with the operator. For a same-day private-room request, the stated booking method is telephone; the online reservation site is useful for checking the listed conditions, but it does not make a daily capacity limit a guarantee of a booking.

Keep the admission budget separate from transport and optional purchases. The prices in this guide are for the listed courses and do not establish a full-day travel budget. This approach makes it easier to compare a simple bath visit with a rest course or room booking without mistaking a room fee for a bathing-only ticket.

Travellers’ videos

The videos below offer different perspectives on the bathhouses and the surrounding town. WAO RYU! ONLY in JAPAN presents the historic bathhouse and its features, while MIKI from Japan’s travel vlog introduces things to do around Dogo Onsen town. Yuitabi shares a solo overnight trip, and Daily Travelogue shows a morning walk through the area in Chinese.

The Korean-language channel 에이엘A-EL compares Honkan, Asuka-no-Yu and Tsubaki-no-Yu in a Matsuyama travel video. I Love Japan TH includes Dogo Onsen in a Thai-language video about travel in Ehime. These are individual videos rather than current operating notices: use the official facility pages for today’s prices, hours and booking conditions.

Which bathhouse has the lowest listed adult price?

Tsubaki-no-Yu has the lowest listed adult bathing price in this guide, at ¥500. The lowest-priced listed adult course at the Honkan is Kami-no-Yu downstairs, at ¥700, and Asuka-no-Yu’s listed first-floor bath is ¥610. The prices were checked on 5 November 2026, so confirm current fees with Matsuyama City before your visit.

Which Honkan course is bathing only?

Kami-no-Yu downstairs is the Honkan’s bathing-only course. Its listed adult price is ¥700, and the child price is ¥350. Its stated hours are 6:00–23:00, with last entry at 22:30; check the official information before travelling.

Does a Shirasagi or Hisho room have its own bath?

No. Neither the Shirasagi room nor the Hisho room contains a bath. The reservation listing gives capacities of 18 for Shirasagi and 10 for Hisho, with a room charge and an additional per-person charge; confirm the full price with the operator.

Is Yushinden a bath?

No. Yushinden is not a bathing facility. Self-guided viewing of Yushinden is included with the Honkan’s Tama-no-Yu rest courses, and its child age category is 6–11, unlike the 2–11 category for Honkan general bathing. Check the Honkan’s current course information when choosing.

Can I use an ordinary bathing ticket on another day?

No. Ordinary bathing tickets are valid on the day of purchase. Plan to use your ticket that day rather than treating it as a ticket for a later visit. If your plans change, check the facility’s current information about the applicable ticket conditions.

Are current waiting times and closures listed here?

No current waiting time or specific closure date is established in this guide. Availability and conditions can change, and the number of room or special-bath groups allowed per day does not confirm that a space will be available when you arrive. Check the official pages or contact the facility for information about your travel date.
