Seven restaurants to consider

Compare the restaurants before choosing your meal.

Numata Sou

Numata Sou (ぬまた 双) serves seasonal courses in Nishitenma. Its main counter has eight seats, while a private counter with its own frying station accommodates groups of four to seven. The official course page describes a ¥22,000 course, including tax, with Japanese dishes and approximately 10–13 tempura items. Ask about any service charge when booking.

Diners at each seating start together, so plan to arrive on time. The restaurant also lists cancellation charges beginning seven days before the reservation.

Numata

Numata (ぬま田) is an eight-seat counter in Kitashinchi suited to a special-occasion meal. Its official page lists a chef’s-choice course at ¥30,800 including tax, plus a 5% service charge; the restaurant notes that the price can vary with the season and sourcing. Numata also has an individual MICHELIN Guide listing.

Numata and Numata Sou are sister restaurants, but they have different addresses and phone numbers. Save the Japanese name with your reservation.

Ippoh Honten

Ippoh Honten (一宝 本店) is an option for a meal with family, guests or colleagues in a private-room setting. Its lunch menu lists the ¥18,975 Ume course, including an appetizer, 11 tempura items, a meal and dessert. The dinner menu starts with the ¥29,095 Yokobori course, including 12 tempura items. Both published menu prices include tax and service.

The menus invite guests to discuss allergies and vegetarian, vegan or halal requirements in advance.

Tempura Urakami

Tempura Urakami (天ぷら うらかみ) pairs counter seating with seasonal courses. Its menu lists a ¥15,400 omakase course, including tax, with an additional 8% service charge. It includes sashimi, tempura and a rice finish, and has a stated dining window of two hours and 30 minutes.

TEMPURA HANAGATAMI

TEMPURA HANAGATAMI (天ぷら 花筐) is part of the Japanese restaurant Hanagatami on the fifth floor of The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka. It is a choice for a hotel setting, a published menu and online reservations. It also appears in the MICHELIN Guide.

The hotel’s menu lists tempura lunch courses at ¥12,000 and ¥15,000, and dinner courses at ¥21,000 and ¥27,000. The listed prices include tax and service. The courses differ in ingredients; lunch options include prawn, whiting, sea urchin and vegetables.

When reserving, select the tempura section: Hanagatami also has separate areas for other Japanese dishes.

Tempura Daikichi Namba

For a relaxed meal, Tempura Daikichi Namba (天ぷら大吉 なんば店) lets diners write their choices on an order slip. Tempura is fried after ordering, and clam miso soup is a house speciality. The Namba Komejirushi page also describes weekday lunch sets.

Tenboshi

Tenboshi (天星) is a ten-seat counter near Tenjinbashisuji 6-chome Station. Its lunch page lists an ¥4,180 omakase lunch including tax, with an appetizer, nine kinds of tempura and sea bream chazuke.

How to book and order

Start with the online booking links on the official pages for Numata Sou and TEMPURA HANAGATAMI. Numata’s MICHELIN listing also links to booking. For Ippoh Honten, Urakami and Tenboshi, call the numbers above to ask about your preferred date and meal.

Before confirming a course, check:

  1. The seating time. Numata and Numata Sou use set start times.
  2. The total price. Tax and service are handled differently across the menus.
  3. Dietary needs. Tell the restaurant about allergies or ingredients you avoid before reserving.
  4. Cancellation terms. Numata Sou and HANAGATAMI publish policies on their official pages.

At Daikichi, choose individual pieces on the order slip. At a course restaurant, ask what the selected course includes and allow time for the meal.

Prices and planning your visit

Lunch offers a way to compare different styles of tempura. Tenboshi lists a ¥4,180 lunch omakase, HANAGATAMI lists a ¥12,000 tempura lunch, and Ippoh Honten’s published lunch courses start at ¥18,975. Compare the dishes and setting as well as the price: these are different meals.

For a longer meal, Urakami’s published omakase has a two-and-a-half-hour dining window. At Numata Sou, plan your journey around the fixed seating time rather than a broad dinner period.
